Registration closed
An ancient craft, natural dyeing offers a creative place to connect with the beauty and bounty of our planet’s rich offerings to create color and one-of-a-kind palettes.
In the morning participants will learn the basics of how to naturally dye plant and animal-based fibers using sustainable and eco-friendly methods. We will cover proper fiber preparation techniques, mordants, the importance of plant knowledge, what your kitchen, garden & local fields have to offer, how to extract dye successfully and most importantly have fun doing it all!
In the afternoon we will explore the art of botanical printing. We’ll discuss multiple techniques for printing on silk and cellulose fibers with local and regional plant material. Participants will have the opportunity to print their own silk scarf. All materials are provided but we encourage you to bring some local plant material such as oak, pecan, sumac, maple and chestnut leaves, or anything else in you are curious about.
