Among the most pervasive factors impacting our well-being is the impact of ongoing (and seemingly endless) stress, leaving us anxious, exhausted, overwhelmed, freaked out and otherwise muddled. Thankfully, there is a diverse array of herbs we can choose from to fortify our resilience or persevere, but which to use when? We’ll look at a number of nervines and adaptogens to see which best fit the needs of different people responding in different ways to different stressors.
Location:
Sacred Plant Traditions, Downtown Charlottesville
Fee: $150

Field and Forest Energetic Herbcraft
Saturday and Sunday, April 29 – 30
9:30 – 4:30

No matter how we practice or which tradition(s) we draw from, there are important principles that underlie everything we do. Among the most important: know your plants. Know them like your closest friends, your family; be in relationship with them. Over the weekend, we’ll leaf out our materia medica by looking at the plants growing in the fields and forests of Nelson County, VA. We will explore the ways they manifest their energetics, system affinities, and specific indications to express the overarching virtues they offer to us (and there are many). Along the way we’ll touch on the deep nuance of energetics applied well, drawing out specific actions through differentways of making medicine, what a plant’s tastes and impressions tell us, and lots of insights gained through experience.
Location: Directions will be sent upon registration but for lodging purposes, class will be held close to Nellysford, VA, approximately 45 mins west of Charlottesville. Nelson County is homw to beautiful land, trails, vineyards and is a destination in and of itself.
Fee: $295

About jim mcdonald
In 1994, jim mcdonald’s life changed when he drank tea from a wild plant he harvested from the land he lived upon. Since those first sips of strange tea, his life in the woods and meadows of southeast michigan has been centered on the plants & ecosystems of that land, and how he might share their virtues to restore wellness with those around him. jim’s approach to herbcraft is deeply rooted in the land he lives upon, and blends traditional european folk influences with 19th century eclectic and physiomedical vitalism, which he conveys with story, experience, humour, common sense and lore to students, clients, random passersby and readers of his websites www.herbcraft.org & herbcraft.podia.com.
